How to be a good friend

In 3/4W, we just read a book called ‘Never lonely again’ and spoke about what makes a good friend.

This is what we thought about what makes a good friend:

  • Be kind to people and not shout. Use kind voices and tones.
  • If someone is lonely, you can try to be their friend or be friendly towards them.
  • When they have made good choices, you should say ‘good job’ or encourage them.
  • Share things with your friends.
  • Say nice things to people and maybe say ‘I can be your friend’.
  • Remind your friends or people kindly about making the right choices. Don’t encourage inappropriate choices or pay attention to not so good choices.
  • Be confident to say ‘stop’ to things that are unkind or hurtful to people. If they don’t stop, use persistence to keep trying or tell a teacher.

Do you think there is anything we could add to the list? If so, please include it in the comments. How have you been a good friend?

l think if you want to be a good friend you could share things with them (but not food)and use nice word to them, don’t be rude, if they are hurt you could care about them and help them.

    • Dear Aditya,

I agree with you, everyone should treat other people nicely like saying good job to good choices or stand up for them when they’re being bullied. But don’t encourage bad choices. You can be a good friend like that.

  2. Dear 3/4W

To be a good friend it is like saying nice words to people. If someone is upset don’t leave them alone, just ask them to be your friend then they will be happy.

  3. Dear 34W and visitors,
Another thing you could include is not to say things are easy or boring because other people might find them hard or fun.

  4. Dear 3/4W,
You can be a good friend in lots of different ways. You can share and encourage. Remember that wherever there is a human being there is an opportunity for kindness.

  5. Dear 34 W,
I think that if someone is sitting alone you could go up to them ask them if any thing is wrong and if there is something wrong try and help them.

  6. Dear 3/4W,
When you are kind to other people you make new friends but when you are mean you lose friends so you need to make sure you are always kind to people so you have many friends.

  7. Hi Ms Wong,

  8. Dear 3/4W,
I agree with your blog post and I believe this is a very important topic because kids can sometimes treat their friends disrespectfully. I also think to be a good friend you should be supportive. http://www.flags8.org/

  9. Dear 34w,
I agree with you because if you really want to be a good friend you have to be kind and respectful. You also have to encourage them and give them feed back of what you think it’s right.

    • Dear R Perez,
A pretty popular food over here is Pizza, although it is an Italian dish many people over here love it. What’s your favourite NBA team?

  11. Dear Ms. Wong,

I agree with what your class said about how to be a good friend. Telling your friend what is wrong and what’s wrong is a good one. I think a popular action that makes a good friend is giving them a shoulder to cry on, it is a good one too.

  15. Dear 3/4 W
being a good friend is important you can be a good friend by being kind or encouraging others. Sometimes to be a good friend means you have to be confident because you might need to ask some one to be your friend, and if someone is asking you to be your friend don’t be mean because it might be hard for someone to ask some one to be their friend. If someone doesn’t have a friend then you can ask them to join in with you because they might be shy.
SO BE A GOOD FRIEND TODAY
